Newcomb's Paradox - What Would You Choose?
Newcomb’s paradox has been dividing people for the last 50 years, with answers to the problem split almost equally. At the heart of the paradox lies a conflict between two principles of decision theory: the expected utility principle, and the dominance principle. Choosing to open both boxes, or just the second box, are both rational choices. But what would you choose?

Mass Hysteria And The Dancing Plague Of 1518
Переглядів 83 тис.6 років тому
The dancing plague of 1518 is one of the most bizarre events in history. In the city of Strasbourg over 400 people were caught up in the epidemic, dancing uninterrupted for weeks until they either collapsed from exhaustion or died. But why did people suddenly lose control of their bodies, and why don't we have dancing epidemics anymore? Sources and additional reading: goo.gl/LFq8pH goo.gl/n7Gaa...

If the supercomputer always predicts my choice properly, there is no free will. Therefore everything I imagine to choose is coerced by the circumstances, and not a product if my own decision. I can therefore happily choose the 2nd box with the million. I know I missed the central problem, but where is my mistake? I think the dominance principle (game theory?) cannot apply here, as my decision would immediately influences the conditions which make it either dominant or not.

Aztecs and sumarian both used base 12. They would count each finger segment (3 per finger) with their thumbs. Once getting to twelve, they'd raise a finger on their other hand, showing a complete set. By the time they'd raise each finger and thumb of the se ond hand, they'd have counted to 60. Then they repeat it on the other hand. This is why circles have 360 degrees, time is marked in 2 12 hour segments, each hour has 60 minutes, and each minute has 60 seconds.

Before watching the video, This isn't a paradox. It takes standard math's and changes it to calculus. That is to say. You don't need to decrease the distance by half until it reaches an infinitesimal. You continue at a velocity until the full distance is reached and you can absolutely keep going past that set distance

Twenty is to similar to ten, to have it assemble two do better, I would rename it to twodo. After that comes thirdo, fourdo, fifdo, sixdo, sevendo, eightdo, nindo, decdo, eldo and finally one gro. 1000 in base do would be a mo. 10000 would be do-mo 100000 would be gro-mo, just like in base ten.

If you divide a square in the same way Zeno was dividing distance - the solution to this problem becomes obvious - a whole number can be infinitely divided. But, that doesn't make the whole number infinity. The reason philosophers couldnt solve this for a long time was due to the limits in the knowledge of math in the time of ancient Greece. Not being dumb as some people in this thread have posted (who I can only assume are all World famous math genius about to contribute new discoveries to the field)? The fact the ancient Greeks didn't have our knowledge doesn't make then lesser. In fact, their knowledge was pretty exceptional for their time. Our modern model of democracy has barely changed from the Greek model. We all still mostly think in Platonic forms and Aristotlian categories in Western philosophy and science too. And the Socratic method would enrich the critical thinking skills of about 99.999% of people if they learnt & understood it!

If only the sight issue was fixed then no. The brain having zero frame of reference would need time to train itself differentiate what eas going on. Learning to flip the picture projected on the retina, ignore the blind spot, learning how to focus and dialate, etc. Doing this experiment would be fairly useless as the blind peraon would perceive a mirage of meaningless shapes and colors, shadow and light.

In short, it doesn't work because if it did work, at some point we would have to move at an infinitely slow speed, which can't be stopping because there has to be movement, and it can't be so slow it's immeasurable, because we all know we aren't capable of that. So Zeno is an idiot. He shouldn't sticked to other things and not movement and leave movement to Newton and Einstein

To your younger self, nothing will have changed, you will have found the book and made the time machine, and if im not wrong any loops that occur would only be the theoretical or imagined loop in your mind after you realise what you've done, this is barely a loop and more of a really big curve, you're younger self will become you, and do what you did, the only way it would change is if you interacted with him or her. And you would probably jump directly after or sometime long before ir long after event c, so think of the whole thing like less of a loop and more just some really weird curves. Edit: even if something did change down the line, the you right now will never have experienced it except in the past, unless you ddi something that substantially changed the projectory of your life then it would just be new memories.

The answer is simple..before a bootstarp paradox happens there was an original timeline with a different variable. For example in the Terminator series. John Carter had an original father who was not a time traveler when Kyle Reese traveled back to the past. He created a new paradox.

The time it would take Achilles to measure each divisional measurement up to plank length - he would be surpassed by the greatx^ grandchild of the tortoise. Its a mathmatical construct Zeno used to prophecy the quagmire modern science would descend into. The Tortoise is actually the intelligent one. He knows Achilles will wreck himself trying to prove the Tortoise wrong by measuring everything...

It is not possible for you to chose both boxes and get a million dollars since if you choose both boxes the computer would’ve known that and wouldn’t put a million dollars in box 2. It is also not possible for you to choose box 2 and get nothing because if you choose box 2 the computer would have known that was going to happen and would put a million dollars in box 2. So the only two options are that you choose both boxes and get 1,000 dollars or that you choose box 2 and get a million dollars. Given the two options, I would choose box 2 because you get more money. It is also worth noting that which box you decide to choose still matters even if the money is already in box 1 or box 2 because the whole reason why the money is in either box is because the computer looked into the future and saw whether you would choose both boxes or box 2. So what this means is that your future decision to either choose box 2 or both boxes affects which box has the money in it. So it appears that if it is possible to see the future then that would mean that future events are capable of influencing past events. Pretty weird right?

Especially walking through haunted Forest! If you’re never done that, especially if you love fall and Halloween what are you waiting for? You are missing out so much! The sad part is, One only lives long enough to experience between 60 and 100 fall seasons & Halloween’s. Tho roughly 50 years one is capable of going to such places like haunted forest but a little longer to enjoy Halloween! It just occurred to me that would be the way to go! Old age, walking through a haunted forest getting to enjoy the fall at night, the smell, the atmosphere. only for your heart to give out I probably the best place in the world at the best time!

Overly simplistic. Bipedalism requires major design changes . The balance mechanism in the ears has to readapt for upright locomotion, the hip, legs, knees and feet have to change radically. Also the spine and positioning of the head vertically above the spine is needed. All these changes have to take place in harmony with each other. This is a design problem........ mindless evolution cannot account for this.

the shift to bipedalism in humans is a prime example of how evolutionary processes can lead to complex adaptations over time without the need for a "designer." The fossil record, the interconnected nature of anatomical changes, and the principles of natural selection all provide robust explanations for this significant evolutionary transition.

So then this 2 part question is: 1) Why did the Judge said the Dude will be executed next week, but no further date? I'd imagine for security reasons, for which the judge didn't mention the reason why, but overall, that's what he chose. Another possible of reasoning is that the Judge is a sadistic prick. Overall, who knows. The Dude was convicted and the Dude will die. No tricks nor shady shit. Idk why people wouldn't take court seriously, but personally, I enjoy the freedom of what I can do and what I can build from what I got, soooo........ 🤷. Accept the Truth, I guess would be my answer for that. And 2) Why did the Prisoner think he can get away, due to a Technicality? The Judge says he's gonna die next week. Accept and Wait....... I guess that would be my answer for the 2nd question, but I'd also imagine the Dude only hoped to live and be free. For either forgive and live or continue the chaos of his freedom of choice, the Dude didn't know any to die. So overall, there's no tricks for this court ruling. The true reasoning maybe unknown to why the Judge said that and it is clear the Dude didn't want to die, but the Rulings were final and my personal answer is Accept and Wait for your consequences in Life.
